Founded in 1903 Highbury Preparatory School is the oldest school in the Upper Highway area yet it is undeniably a school for and about the future. The school’s extensive history is palpable when you stroll through the 28 acre grounds dotted with mature trees and historic buildings. In November last year to honour the school’s journey ‘The Highburian Museum’ opened its doors. This fascinating space will be part of the estate tour for the 2016 Open Day.
“A school is a human institution which must be flexible enough to change and meet the challenges of the present times whilst also having the strength to remain true to its ethos and values,” explains Brendan Carroll, Headmaster of Highbury. “Highbury has always believed in encouraging boys to develop holistically, including academics, sport, cultural and spiritual areas.”
Highbury is about child-centred teaching and 21st Century learning. Open Day visitors will witness classes in action and notice how boys need activity, competition, humour, a sense of ownership, longer playtimes, hands-on activities and specific boy themes. Boys love technology and the one-to-one iPad programme has proved effective through interactive learning.

Prospective Weavers’ Nest and Highbury parents are warmly encouraged to attend the annual Open Day on Friday 4 March. Please email marketing@hps.co.za for more detail or reply via our website www.hps.co.za/
